New children’s program, “Tiny Farmers” by Oregon Road Organics teaches your petite crew where food comes from through hands-on fun
“Growing up on the North Fork, I was surrounded by farms, fresh food, and a community that truly cared for the land,” Kendall Fabb, Oregon Road Organics CSA Manager and Activities Coordinator, shared with us in a recent interview. “That early connection to agriculture stayed with me and eventually grew into a career rooted in farming. Now, I’m passionate about sharing that experience — especially with younger generations — and helping others understand just how important local agriculture is to our health, our environment, and our community.”
With Kendall’s passion for farming and education, she, along with the help of two others, launched Tiny Farmers, a bi-weekly educational children's drop-off program at Oregon Road Organics for children ages 3 to 6.
“We created Tiny Farmers as a way for children to learn where their food comes from, explore the farm through hands-on experiences, and understand the importance of local agriculture in a fun and meaningful way,” Kendall shared.
Tiny Farmers is scheduled to run every other Sunday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. beginning on August 17 and ending on October 26.
Each session will feature a different, unique farm-themed experience designed to engage the young learners’ senses and curiosity, such as vegetable matching games to teach children the varieties of farm-fresh produce, and a build-your-own CSA basket workshop where children can create their own select harvest. With a thoughtful variety of hands-on activities that change through the season, children will keep engaged and eager to return.
“These engaging events will feature hands-on activities and sensory play stations, offering little ones a chance to explore, create, and connect with the farm through fun, interactive learning,” she added. “Kids will explore hands-on activities that encourage learning about plants, animals, and the rhythms of farm life — all while having a blast outdoors. Every gathering is a fresh opportunity for little ones to connect with nature, discover new textures, smells, and tastes, and grow their understanding of where their food comes from.”
Each session costs $65/child, and every child is invited to take home something special from each session. Enroll here and be on the lookout for a three-session giveaway on Petite North Fork’s Instagram later this month.
Kendall suggests that families pack their tiny farmer with a snack and dress them in farm-friendly clothing. Water will be provided.
Worried about dropping your kiddo off somewhere new? Familiarize your fam with a visit beforehand! Oregon Road Organics’ farm stand is open Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. While you’re there, enjoy bucolic farm views and check out the repurposed silo. Once used to store grain on a neighboring farm, the family-run farm gave it a second life as a gathering space and shop.
“We’re a small, family-run certified organic farm with most of our management team under the age of 30 — bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and a deep passion for sustainable agriculture,” Kendall shared. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to see young kids engage with the land, ask questions, and build a connection to the food they eat and the people who grow it.”
