Even though there’s nearly an entire month left before our kiddos go back to school — “there’s as much ahead as there is behind,” I try to remind them — summer feels like it’s beginning to dwindle. Our August days are slow, and our desires for a jam-packed schedule were left in July, which makes drop-in camp days and casual programs right up our alley. Read on for our picks for North Fork drop-off programs, one-day camps, and more throughout August.
Drop-in days at North Fork United Soccer Camp
If a whole week of camp feels like too much this month, North Fork United Soccer Club has you covered with its drop-in summer camp day pass. For $95, children ages 4 through 15 are invited to join for a day of soccer camp, including skill development, mini games, coaches’ challenges, and fun. Camp runs from 9 a.m. until noon, with dropoff beginning at 8:30 a.m. Choose any day, Monday through Friday. Register for your North Fork United Soccer Club Camp Day Pass here.
Yoga for children of all abilities at The Heart of It
With so few programs created for children with special needs, we were delighted to see the upcoming “Yoga For All Abilities” program by Lorraine Hayden, hosted at The Heart of It in Aquebogue. Register your child for one class or for the three-week series running on Thursdays, August 7, 14, and 21. Children ages 4 to 6 with special needs of any kind are invited to explore movement and practice breathwork while learning tools to lift their mood and relax their thinking. The cost is $25/class or $60 for all three sessions. Learn more and register here.
Children’s Summer Workshops at Sang Lee Farms
If your child hasn’t yet experienced one of Sang Lee’s Friday workshops for children, now is the time. On Friday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., children ages 5-8 are invited to attend a Wild Textiles workshop where children will explore the farm, nosh on produce, and create printed tote bags or t-shirts using vegetables, flowers, and herbs. Then, on Friday, August 15, from 10 a.m. to noon, for the final children’s session of the summer, kids ages 5-8 are invited for a Young Foragers workshop. There, children will tour, explore, and forage the farm, then assemble their own edible creations and more. The cost for Sang Lee Farms’ children’s workshops is $70/child. Register here.
Choose your own adventure days at North Fork Cheer
Jump into North Fork Cheer’s camp drop-in days, where your child can choose their own adventure from gym play and skill acquisition to crafts, exploration workshops, confidence building, and camp fun. Each day runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with select days available through August 19. Each drop-in day costs $80/day plus fees. Register here.
An evening at the farm at Browder’s Birds
While we’ve loved the day camp at Browder’s Birds, I’ve had my eye on the farm’s special “Campers Have S’Mores Fun” events and am eagerly awaiting until both of my children are old enough to enroll. If you have children between the ages of 5 and 12, don’t sleep on this unique drop-off event. On Thursday, August 14, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., children are invited for an evening of games, stories, dinner, and fun around the campfire. Dinner will feature organic hot dogs (veg option available) and chips, and s’mores for dessert. The event will end with a hayride in the field to tuck the farm animals in for the night. The cost is $60/child. Register here.
