Head to Hallockville Museum Farm in Riverhead and take a step back in time at the family-friendly 44th Annual Country Fair.
“Hallockville’s Country Fair is an annual, family-friendly event held at Hallockville Museum Farm on the North Fork, celebrating folk arts and our agricultural heritage with historical tours, live music, children's activities, tractor pulls, and demonstrations of traditional skills, all while raising funds to support the museum's mission to take Long Island back to its family farming roots and explore their relevance today,” Hallockville Museum Farm Executive Director, Heather Johnson shared.
While most fairs and festivals feature just a few dedicated activities for kids, Hallockville Museum Farm’s Country Fair features many, and for kids of every age. From a petting zoo and pony rides to crafts, potato digging, hands-on old-fashioned laundry, classic games and races, and some new exciting additions, your petite crew will stay busy for hours.
“Families will love this event because there truly is something for everyone,” added Heather. “Children can enjoy potato sack races, potato digging, traditional crafts, face painting, pony rides, and a petting zoo. Our friends from the Long Island Antique Power Association will host tractor pulls — including one just for kids — a train ride, and more. Live music will fill the grounds all day, both days.”
In addition to the above kid-friendly attractions, this year, the Country Fair will also feature new happenings raising the bar on family-friendly fun.
On Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families will enjoy a puppet-making workshop with Goat on a Boat Theatre. There will also be a performance by Islip Horseman’s Association on Saturday.
Then on Sunday, Picasso the Painting Dog will be in action painting at noon and 2 p.m. His owner, Yvonne Dagger — a children’s book artist and author — will do a book reading at 11 a.m. and again at 3 p.m.
While the kids may see the fair as a day of fun (and it really is!), there is a strong importance to this local Country Fair.
“Hallockville’s Country Fair is important to the North Fork because it celebrates the area’s farming heritage, brings the community together, supports local artisans and traditions, and helps preserve the region’s history for future generations,” Heather told us.
Through play, hands-on learning, house tours, and cooking demonstrations, you can look forward to connecting with the North Fork’s farming roots with your petite crew.
Tickets are available at the door. Admission to the Country Fair costs $12/person (ages 13+), $8 per person (ages 5-12), and is free for children 4 and under. For the 50th Anniversary of Hallockville Museum Farm, tickets will be 50% off on Sunday, 9/28, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Hallockville Museum Farm is located at 6038 Sound Ave., Riverhead. For the Fair’s complete schedule of events, visit here.
