October brings many things: the first full month of fall, spooky season, and pumpkin everything. Let’s kick it off with a visit to some of our favorite local U-pick pumpkin patches. Here are 10 places to pick pumpkins on the North Fork that are Petite approved and for good reason.
Main Rd., Peconic
Open daily, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This multi-generational Peconic farm is known for its exceptional offerings of pumpkins, gourds, and squashes. Spend the day picking pumpkins, enjoying a hay ride, finding your way through the corn maze, and strolling through the haunted barn, if you dare!
Harbes Family Farm, Sound Ave., Mattituck, Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Harbes Farms Jamesport, Route 25, Jamesport, open weekends and holidays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Harbes Orchard, Sound Ave., Riverhead, Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
With three properties each offering a different experience, Harbes Farms are sure to have a family farm for every liking. Along with U-pick pumpkins offered at each location, you and your petite crew can also pick apples at Harbes Orchard, wind through sunflower and corn mazes at Harbes Farms in Jamesport, or spend hours at Barnyard Adventure at Harbes Family Farm after picking on-the-vine pumpkins at two distinct picking patches.
West Lane, Riverhead
Open weekdays from noon to 5 p.m., weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Our pick for off-the-beaten path, Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm, features a plentiful crop of pumpkins in addition to hay rides, a corn maze, snacks and sweets, a picnic area, harvest decor, and so much more. There is no charge for admission, plenty of seasonally decorated spots for photo ops, and some funky pumpkin varieties to explore.
Union Ave., Aquebogue
Open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
From pumpkin picking to pies, this North Fork farm and farmstand has it all. Kids will enjoy the play yard, and parents can shop for flowers, decor, baked goods, and more.
Sound Ave., Calverton
Open Wed. to Mon. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (U-pick closes at 4:30 p.m.)
Fall is in full swing at the U-pick farm of all U-pick farms. Spend a day in the farm fields picking pumpkins, apples, and select vegetables. Then, meander through the corn maze with the whole family. Adults can enjoy pumpkin beer while kids nosh on roasted corn and potatoes.
Sound Ave., Wading River
Open Mon. to Sat. from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sun. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fine, this farm may not have u-pick fields to romp through, BUT they do have the North Fork's famous Annual Pumpkin Rainbow that you won’t want to miss. Stop by this lovely farm stand to snap photos of your fam next to the most colorful display of pumpkins you’ve ever seen. Also, whatever you do, do not sleep on their corn — it’s actually the best.
Sound Ave., Riverhead
Open Sat. and Sun. from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This small family farm features all the fall classics: U-pick pumpkins on the vine, sunflowers, corn and hay mazes, barrel rides, and more. And, if you’re looking for a pumpkin patch to take your favorite pup, this is the spot — Holzman’s is dog-friendly, too!
Meeting House Creek Rd., Aquebogue
Open daily, dawn until dusk
If you haven’t visited Hubbard’s Farmstand, now is the time! There, you’ll not only find homegrown produce but also the cutest pumpkin house you’ve ever seen! Take photos and enjoy this sweet spot that’s off the main drag.
Sound Ave., Riverhead
Open Wed. to Fri. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat. and Sun. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Few things are better than spots that cater to children and adults alike. Lucky for us, Waterdrinker North Fork checks those boxes with pumpkin picking, kids’ play areas, mini golf, animals, and a whole lot more for kids AND a Long Island Farm Brewery beer garden, food trucks, and live music for adults to enjoy. (Visit the farm’s website for specific details on offerings.)
Middle Country Rd., Calverton
Open daily, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Not only do they have a plentiful selection of U-pick, including pumpkins, of course, but they also offer decadent sweet treats (hello, apple cider slushie!), picnic tables, a corn maze, and more.
