While we’re all for bundling up and spending time outdoors, sometimes our kids need an indoor option to burn energy during the winter months. These seven spots, all located on the North Fork or nearby, feature indoor spaces for sports and physical activity with kids.

The Cage, Riverhead

Head to this indoor training facility if your kid is looking to practice their baseball or softball skills or try something new. The Cage offers year-round training in its three-tunnel, climate-controlled turf facility, featuring lessons, clinics, and batting cage rentals. They also host birthday parties. Drop-in reservations for batting cage rentals are available by ½ or full hour, one to two players max. Fees $25+/30 mins. Three to five players or six players and up must reserve full cage rentals for the hour. More info and booking here.

BOX Pickleball, Riverhead

Pickleballer or not, BOX Pickleball welcomes all to rent a court and get playing. Up to six players can share a court and have fun playing pickleball. Children under 13 must have a parent or guardian present. Rates vary depending on membership, but non-members are invited to play for $40/hour/court off-peak (Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) or $60/hour/court peak. Food and drinks are also available for purchase at the in-house kitchen and bar, Ghost. Reserve your court here and learn more about BOX Pickleball.

Scott’s Pointe, Calverton

This adventure park offers tons of indoor options for your thrill-seeker, but some of our favorite features are the various rock climbing walls. There are three located in the kids’ room with varying difficulty; climbers must be 22 lbs.+ to climb, and another six walls, including a two-sided wall, for climbers 46” or taller in the main room. Fuel up before your day of adventure at the on-site restaurant, Lake View Grill. Learn more about Scott’s Pointe and its offerings here.
